A Pandemic Protest Portmanteau

Nazgul. They're everywhere, really.

The Fall of Hollysportics
Hollywood, Sports, and Politics

'Twas darkening, and the slithy media
Did slather and edit in glee:
All tipsey were the politicians,
And the people clamored for free.

"Beware Hollywood, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Pro Sports, and shun
      The influencer coffee clatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand;
Long time the beautiful beast he sought—
So dazzled by its glitz and light
Before pausing in serious thought.

The Beast, with eyes of flame,
Posting hashtags to Twitter and Facebook alike,
      Snarling as it came!

How dare you turn your back?
We'll tell you what to think and believe
And get your mind on track."

"Up is down, evil is good,
Kneel to stand, left is right.
Raise a closed fist, toast with a Molotov,
illustrate tolerance when you fight."

The Beast was huge, its power immense,
Elite money, control, earthly lords.
His vorpal sword one last time
Raised, and swiftly cut the cords.

He knelt to no man, but in prayer.
"And hast thou slain that Beast?
And its vast armies of lies and fear?"
Indeed, for even the least.

’Twas brillig, and the praying folks
Did cry out and talk to God:
Quiet was Hollywood, sports, and politics
As new soldier's feet were shod.

Yes. I borrowed heavily from the poem Jabberwocky, by Lewis Carroll

*Peter Strozk said it, not me.

  1. Hollysportics. That seems like an apt and useful term. Part of me wants to get Woke Capital in there, too, but I think that would get awkward. Unwieldy.

    Well done!
